System Of A Down - Mezmerize (2005)

System Of A Down - Mezmerize (2005)
Mezmerize is the fourth studio album by American rock band System of a Down. It is the first half of the Mezmerize/Hypnotize double album. It was released on May 17, 2005, six months before Hypnotize. Despite the time difference between releases, the album actually takes its name from the lyrics in the song "Hypnotize"; Mezmerize and Hypnotize were recorded within the same time frame. The album features guitarist Daron Malakian sharing most of the vocal work with vocalist Serj Tankian, splitting the vocals at least halfway on most of the tracks.

The album debuted at number one in at least twelve countries, including the US Billboard 200, and has since been certified Platinum by the RIAA.

Xcarnation - Grounded (2005)

XCARNATION is a project set up by Turkish composer, guitarist, arranger and producer Cenk Eroglu. Being the son of an accomplished conductor, arranger and jazz pianist, he became involved with music at a very early age. During the last 15 years he has produced many albums in his home country, but he has also released two solo albums so far: one in 1991 and another in 1996.

After the release of his second solo album, he started working on a new project with the aim to integrate heavy rock and electronic sounds into a synthesis of Eastern and Western music. Materializing this aim however covered a long period of time, during which he stumbled upon two musicians who had inspired him previously: Pat Mastellotto (King Crimson) and Kip Winger. By the time he met Kip (in 2002), he had finalized his new sound and named it Xcarnation. “Grounded” was recorded with the help of 13 musicians and among them you’ll find the complete line-up of Winger: Kip Winger on lead and background vocals, bass and acoustic guitar, Reb Beach on guitar and Rod Morgenstein (next to the above-mentioned Pat Mastellotto) on drums. Don’t expect highly accessible rock like Winger served us in the past however, because this is totally other stuff. Admitted, thanks to the help of Turkish musicians, Eroglu has indeed succeeded in finding that balance between Eastern and Western music, but the question remains: who was waiting for such a ‘strange’ album? Personally, I don’t think I will play this album much in the future again. Even the (alternative) lead vocals of Kip Winger – a man I admired so much in the past – won’t convince me to do so. Too bad…

Born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1967, as the son of an accomplished conductor, arranger and jazz pianist, Cenk Eroglu became involved with music at a very early age. During his teenage years, he spent most of his time writing, playing and recording music, which initiated his musical career. Cenk released his first solo album in the year 1991. From then on, he produced many albums in Turkey and became renowned as a composer, guitarist, arranger and producer. After his second solo album was released in the year 1996, he began to work on a new project which was aimed at an integration of heavy rock and electronic sounds into a synthesis of Eastern and Western music. The materialization of this new sound covered a long period of time during which he met first Pat Mastellotto (Mr. Mister and King Crimson) and then Kip Winger (Winger) - two musicians who had greatly inspired him previously in his music life. In 2001, he participated in the making of the album BPMM together with Pat Mastelotto, Robert Fripp, Tony Levin and Trey Gunn. By the time Cenk met Kip in 2002, he had finalized his new sound which he named Xcarnation. Inspired by the fruits of his work, Pat Mastellotto, Kip Winger, Rod Morgenstein (Winger / Dixie Dregs / Steve Morse) and Reb Beach (Winger / Dokken / Whitesnake) and many ethnic instrument players in Turkey made their artistic contributions to the songs in the album. As an outcome of Cenk's long musical journey, Xcarnation, all songs written, sung, arranged and engineered by Cenk Eroglu, is ready to meet the world market on September 19th 2005.

Sammy Hagar - Discography (1977-2002)

Sam Roy "Sammy" Hagar (born October 13, 1947), known as "The Red Rocker", is an American rock singer, guitarist, composer and solo artist. Hagar was the second of three singers for Van Halen, as well as the original singer of the early 1970s rock band Montrose. On March 12, 2007, Hagar was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Van Halen. He has had the opportunity to work with some of hard rock's most famous guitarists including Eddie Van Halen, Ronnie Montrose, Neal Schon of Journey, and more recently, Joe Satriani. Outside of music, he is also well-known as the founder of the Cabo Wabo Tequila brand and restaurant chain. He currently resides in Mill Valley, California and also has a residence in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. His present musical project is as lead singer of a hard rock band called Chickenfoot.

After parting ways with vocalist David Lee Roth, the remaining members of the band Van Halen contacted many potential replacements. In July 1985, given Eddie Van Halen's appreciation of Montrose and his car mechanic's suggestion, the band auditioned and quickly hired Hagar to fill the opening. With Hagar at the front, Van Halen produced four multi-platinum, #1 Billboard charting albums: 5150, OU812, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, and Balance, as well as many chart hits, including nine #1 Mainstream Rock hits. Internal disputes eventually led to Hagar's departure from the band in June 1996. Hagar disagreed with a decision to record two new tracks for the soundtrack to the film Twister, after the band had agreed to take time off following their 1995 world tour. Hagar was also opposed to the issuance of a greatest hits record at that point in the band's career. These two items were pushed by Van Halen's new manager Ray Danniels, Alex Van Halen's brother-in-law, brought in after the death of their longtime manager Ed Leffler. Hagar wanted instead to record a new studio album, but only after Eddie, Alex, and Hagar's pregnant wife had all dealt with their respective medical issues. Although there are several versions of how the split occurred, Hagar has stated that the final straw came when he was with his wife in Hawaii, where they had arranged for a natural delivery of the baby (meaning outside of a hospital), and Eddie wanted him back in the studio in California. Hagar claimed to have flown to Los Angeles with his wife only to discover that she couldn't fly back to Hawaii. In the ensuing argument, he claims that he was fired. Eddie, on the other hand, says that Hagar quit. The end came when Eddie started to work with former lead singer David Lee Roth instead of Hagar, and two new songs were made with Roth for Best of Volume I. When Van Halen again parted ways with Roth, instead of rehiring Hagar, the band hired a new singer, Gary Cherone.

Sammy Hagar - I never Said Goodbye (1987)
The only solo album released while Hagar was a member of Van Halen. The album was recorded in ten days as a contractual obligation to Geffen Records as a condition of his leaving the label to join Van Halen and their record label, Warner Bros. Records. It is also sometimes known as Sammy Hagar, and some pressings even left it simply titled Sammy Hagar, but it is not the same album as his 1977 self-titled release.

The album was originally titled Sammy Hagar, and included an untitled cover. The album was re-named I Never Said Goodbye, the name being chosen as part of an MTV promotional contest.
It features Eddie Van Halen on bass. In an interview, Eddie said he also played a very brief part on guitar uncredited. The songs "Give to Live" and "Eagles Fly" were also performed live by Van Halen together with Hagar. "Give To Live" also topped the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart in 1987, a first for Hagar as a solo artist. The former song was included on the album Live: Right Here, Right Now, the latter on the optional Bonus Disk as well as on the "Jump" single.

Sammy Hagar - Marching To Mars (1997)
Evidently, being kicked out of Van Halen revitalized Sammy Hagar, since Marching to Mars is among his best solo albums. A lean, tough collection of by-the-books hard-rockers, Marching to Mars stands out because of its immediate sound and Hagar's sense of purpose. He's out to prove himself, to illustrate that he wasn't just Van Halen's mouthpiece or a blowhard. Subtlety still remains a weak point with Hagar, but he's rarely sounded quite as convincing as he does here, tearing through a set of surprisingly well-written songs with such guest artists as Huey Lewis, Slash, Mickey Hart, and Bootsy Collins. This record is one of his strongest, and with bluesy cuts like "Little White Lie," it's also one of his more ambitious.

Sammy Hagar - Red Voodoo (1999)
Red Voodoo is a Sammy Hagar and The Waboritas album. When Sammy finished touring behind his Marching To Mars album, he took the band from that tour and recorded this record.

When Sammy Hagar's 11 years with Van Halen came to an end, he delivered some of the best solo albums of his career. The rocker's post-Van Halen albums weren't much different from his pre-Van Halen albums of the late '70s and early to mid-'80s â?? Hagar was still playing the type of commercial hard rock and arena rock that put him on the map, and he was doing so with a lot of conviction. The Californian was in his early fifties when Red Voodoo came out in 1999, but it hardly sounds like the work of someone who was mellowing with age. Ballsy, in-your-face rockers like "Mas Tequila" (which incorporates Gary Glitter's "Rock and Roll, Part 2"), "Don't Fight It (Feel it)," "Shag," and the AC/DC-ish "High and Dry Again" and are oozing with confidence â?? -in fact, it's almost as though Hagar is shaking his fist at theVan Halen brothers and letting them know that he can do quite well without them, thank you. To some proponents of '90s alternative rock, Hagar and other arena rock veterans were anachronistic â?? and, to be sure, this CD won't win any awards for being innovative or groundbreaking. Nonetheless, Red Voodoo is among the most passionate, focused, and inspired albums of Hagar's career.

Sammy Hagar - Not 4 Sale (2002)
Not 4 Sale is a Sammy Hagar and The Waboritas album. As the album was released on Sammy's own "Cabo Wabo Music" label, problems arose on the distribution level. The release date passed without copies being delivered to several national retail chains.

You've got to hand it to Sammy Hagar for proving the Van Halen brothers wrong. When he exited the group in 1997, Alex and Eddie blamed Hagar's supposed lack of 'work ethic' as the main reason for the downfall of Van Hagar. But during the subsequent years immediately after the split, Hagar issued a total of four studio albums, while Van Halen could only muster one â?? the horrible misfire Van Halen III. And while Van Halen seemed quite unsure what they wanted to do musically, Hagar stuck to his guns â?? issuing such classic Hagar-esque releases as 2002's Not 4 Sale. By this point in his career, Hagar knows he's playing to the already converted â?? no point in trying to win over the young pop worshipping whippersnappers â?? so there are few surprises here. "Stand Up" and "Halfway to Memphis" are exactly what you'd expect from Hagar, while the Led Zeppelin tribute, "Whole Lotta Zep," gives the listener the feeling that they've just walked into Cabo Wabo on the night of a hot Hagar-led jam. With quite a few rock veterans trying to update their sound with modern touches and failing miserably come the early 21st century, Hagar wisely sticks to his bread and butter on Not 4 Sale.
